![]() So I turned to a place where I know a community has dumped hours into creating realistic procedurally generated maps. Also, almost none of the generators I found were complex enough to properly place mountain ridges or biomes logically. When I tried looking into map generators, most either relied too much on fractal algorithms, which I think look like you just smeared land over a map ( Example), or were only good at making a single island/continent ( Example). ![]() When I tried free hand drawing the continents I felt like I was falling into the block-shaped and equally spaced islands trap, which do not look organic enough ( Example). They didnt need to be extremely scientifically accurate but I wanted them to be plausible at face value (Earth's continents are clearly not random. ![]() I really wanted a map that looked organic and somewhat logical and scientific. ![]() So I wanted to make a world map, but was falling into a lot of the problems I have with most homebrew maps.
